Creative DIY Woodworking Projects that you may not have thought of
When looking at carpentry, it’s easy to think of large scale projects such as wooden structures, staircases, wooden framed windows and more. There are however many other smaller projects that can be attempted by someone who might not necessarily be a trained carpenter that can improve your home or help with storage. Here are just a few ideas of wooden themed items that can be created in your own home.
Wooden Chairs
Whether it be a garden bench or home chair, you can create your own seat without too much complexity. Plans can be found across the internet using similar size slats to make a bench, or even a chair with just 3 sections of wood. These creative chair ideas can be used with a variety of woods, you can use existing chairs as an example of the types of wood and the build required to support your weight. Creative wooden chairs can also be finished by adding curves and unusual shapes, a varnish can then be added on completion to make it more aesthetically pleasing.
Place mats and drinks coasters
If you can find wood that’s available then with precision cutting you can create some trendy place mats and drinks coasters. Wood can be varied to give them a natural patterned look, using a circular cutting tool you can create round coasters which look like they’ve been taken directly from a tree.
If you are feeling adventurous you can also look at creating a holder for the coasters and place mats, a large piece of wood with slits can be created to slide in the place mats. Ensure if you are creating anything to eat or drink from that you include a varnish so that the wood does not stain or splinter.
Wooden Storage
Small chests are quite simple to create with the right woods, some can be made from just 6 pieces of wood added together with joints to create a lid. Within a chest simple draws can be created from the wood. The benefit of creating your own wooden storage solution is that you can draw up the exact size you want to be able to store the items you need in the area you need. You can craft fitted storage to go into certain areas to save even more space. To give the storage a rustic look then try older woods and soft woods.
