The Warning Signs of a Plumbing Disaster

Plumbing disasters can be the only thing you think about when they occur. They are expensive, embarrassing, disruptive of your day to day life, and make it very difficult to return to the normal order of things. For example, blocked pipes can sometimes cause sewage to overflow into your home. Not only do you need to repair the pipes, but also remove the sewage from your house, as well as repair any interior elements the sewage caused. It can be a very difficult and expensive process. Fortunately, plumbing disasters don’t occur suddenly. They happen slowly over time and then suddenly escalate. If you notice the signs before it starts accelerating, then you can avoid a true disaster. Here are some of the signs to watch out for.

Weak Water Flow

If you have weak water flow in one fixture, you likely have some kind of blockage in that pipe. However, if you have weak water flow in many fixtures, you might have a bigger problem. Typically, water comes into your home from a municipal water main. It is then divided into several smaller pipes that go to individual parts of your home. Therefore, if you have a blockage in multiple pipes, there is likely a partial blockage in the water main. A water main problem can escalate very quickly. If you have a problem with multiple fixtures, you should call a plumber in Melbourne. He or she can quickly address the root of the issue before it gets worse. Do not wait around for it to get better; it will most likely get worse.

Sewage Smells

The smell of sewage is very distinct. Its smell is not something you can mistake for anything else. So, if it smells like sewage, it is most likely sewage. If you are smelling it from multiple fixtures, you need to call a plumber quickly. The problem is most likely to be the sewage backing up. If you don’t have any drainage issues or if it’s only happening in one fixture, you should troubleshoot it. To troubleshoot the problem, you should run a little bit of water through the fixture. Pipes have a U-bend in them that collects water and blocks the smell of sewage. If it hasn’t been used in a while, then it has possibly dried up and is the reason why you are smelling sewage. However, if there are blockages or if it’s happening in multiple drains, you have a problem.

Strange Occurrences

It is sometimes difficult to correctly pin down what classifies a strange occurrence. However, if you flush your toilet and see bubbling in your sink, that is definitely strange. It is the kind of occurrence you should be looking out for. Such bubbling is a sign that you have blockages or leaks somewhere in your pipes, causing the changes in pressure. Changes in pressure could be a sign of something bad occurring later on. You should not ignore plumbing problems that affect more than one fixture.
